In Suffolk County, motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for young people between the ages of 15 and 24. Our office is committed to promoting safer roadways by offering engaging and informative traffic safety presentations led by Assistant District Attorneys from our Vehicular Crime Bureau.
Topics include:
Interactive session designed to equip young drivers with the tools to make safe choices on the road.
Eye-opening presentations about the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including real-life stories and statistics.
Demonstrating how distractions like texting and phone usage can lead to devastating outcomes.
Resources to help adults model safe driving behavior and guide teens and young adults as they learn to drive.
These programs aim to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities, especially for teens, by fostering awareness and accountability.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office was selected as a host county for one of New York State’s three Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutors (TSRP). In November 2024, District Attorney Tierney appointed Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Dellinger as the TSRP.
ADA Dellinger offers training, education, and technical assistance to prosecutors and law enforcement in the downstate New York region, to serve a statewide driver safety initiative.
Topics include:
A specialized training program designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of prosecutors who handle cases involving drunk or drugged drivers.
A presentation that discusses importance of considering the impact on victims and their families, including the emotional and financial toll on those involved in collisions, caused by drunk or drugged drivers.
How to handle issues related to the testing of oral fluid in drugged driving cases, in preparation for hearing or trial.
Fifty times stronger than heroin and one-hundred times stronger than morphine, fentanyl is a powerful and addictive opioid that is responsible for countless fatal drug overdoses throughout New York State, including Suffolk County. Assistant District Attorneys from our Narcotics Bureau discuss these issues with students.
Topics include:
presentation provides students with an awareness as to the risks fentanyl and other drugs pose, including the tragic results these narcotics bring about. The discussion includes bringing awareness to the existence of counterfeit drugs in addition to the unsuspecting combination of other narcotics containing fentanyl.
Reducing gang violence is one of the top priorities of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, as it is one of the biggest dangers for young people in Suffolk County.
During this presentation, Assistant District Attorneys will educate youth on the danger that gangs pose to the community, how to identify gang members, and the perils of gang membership.
In this two-in-one program, Assistant District Attorneys from our Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau speak to students about the dangers of teen dating violence, including warning signs and how to get help if they or someone they know is in a physically or verbally abusive relationship, as well as the importance of safe internet use, covering topics from cyberbullying and peer pressure to online sexual predators.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office is committed to fighting financial crimes in our senior citizen community by presenting educational programs at senior citizen centers, AARP events, libraries, and 55-and-over residences to introduce, educate, and prevent seniors from being victimized.
Assistant District Attorneys from our Financial Crimes Bureau instruct the elderly to protect them from scammers and fraudsters by guarding their personal information and preventing them from losing their life savings by having their identity stolen by con artists and swindlers.
