From administrative roles to highly specialized positions, our professional staff plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations.
Work alongside Assistant District Attorneys and other experienced investigators to gather evidence and conduct surveillance in order to build criminal and civil cases, and to prepare those cases for trial.
Students can gain hands-on experience in the criminal justice field by working with Assistant District Attorneys, engaging in real casework, and contributing to impactful projects that benefit the community.
Suffolk County's Civil Service Department oversees a wide range of positions of which the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office hires.
Assistant District Attorneys begin their career in the Intake and Discovery Compliance Bureau, where they screen all arrests in Suffolk County and handle misdemeanor arraignments.
ADAs then rotate through these bureaus to gain hands-on experience prosecuting misdemeanor crimes while building their trial and investigative skills.
Assistant District Attorneys are then assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit, where they prosecute both misdemeanor and felony domestic violence cases.
Assistant District Attorneys will then learn how to present felony cases to the Grand Jury, manage pre-indictment dispositions, and handle felony arraignments.
Assistant District Attorneys are then promoted to more senior bureaus within the Trial Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Special Investigations Division, or Conviction Integrity Division, where they handle complex investigations and cases. These senior bureaus include: Appeals & Training Bureau, Asset Forfeiture and Intelligence Bureau, Child Abuse/Domestic Violence Bureau, Conviction Integrity Bureau, Financial Crimes Bureau, Homicide Bureau, Major Crime Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, Public Corruption Bureau, Vehicular Crime Bureau, and the Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau.
